2007 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina

Rice is only a sophomore, but was allowed to enter the draft because he is three years removed from high school (he was redshirted for a season at South Carolina). He is raw and relatively inexperienced, so he could be a few years away from being a major producer unless he's drafted into an absolutely ideal situation. For example, San Diego has the best player in the NFL at running back to take pressure off the passing game, a solid QB in Philip Rivers, a standout tight end to draw coverage over the middle, and an unproven receiving corps for which Rice would be a welcomed addition. Rice, however, should be gone before the Chargers are able to snatch him. Right now it looks like he'll be gone somewhere around pick 20. Rice is tall (6'4") and has pretty good speed (4.49 forty), but without a doubt his best attribute is his hands. If you watched any of the Gamecocks the last two seasons, you know Rice can catch just about anything.
