Top 10 NFL Draft Prospects for 2009

  1. James Laurinaitis, MLB, Ohio State (Senior)
The Ohio State standout would have been a top ten pick if he had come out this year. He is a very instinctive linebacker that can also cover. Fluid lateral movement and quick check-ups reads. He is the total package. Is more polished than former first rounder and DROY Pat Willis of the 49ers was when he came out.
  2. Michael Oher, OL, Mississippi (Senior)
Another player that could had gone in the top ten this year. A superb athlete who is very fluid and quick. Has come a long way from a difficult beginning. Could be something special. He is college football best tackle, period. Has a real chance to become one of the all time great tackles.
  3. Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia (Junior)
The Bulldog starter has one of the strongest arms in all of football. He has the size, strength and athletic ability to develop into a top NFL signal caller. His only drawback is his lack of consistency. If he improves as much as scouts believe he is capable of, he could become the first player taken next year.
  4. Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland (Junior)
A vertical threat with good size. Heyward-Bey possess the second gear teams usually coveted in a number one receiver. His run after the catch ability is what separates him from the pack. Does not shy away from contact. He can even return kicks fluidly.
  5. Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois (Junior)
One of the most complete cornerbacks to come out of the college ranks in years. Very fast player who does not shy away from contact. Will cover anybody and is a willing run supporter. A gamer, who never quits, he is the total package.
  6. Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State (Senior)
Could had gone in the top ten if he came out this year. The Ohio State corner is as big as many NFL safeties. Add this up to his impressive speed and real burst, and Jenkins have the opportunity to become one of the best D-backs in the NFL.
  7. Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State (Junior)
A total package. Vision, power, speed, hands and burst. Wells might be the most complete RB to come out of the Buckeye program since Robert Smith. With a good season, he should move up from this spot.
  8. Darry Beckwith, MLB, LSU (Senior)
A tough and powerful linebacker, Beckwith has the instincts to play the position with fluidity. A ferocious hitter who can also drop back into coverage. The only knock on him is his past injuries. If he is healthy and plays at the level he did near the end of last season, he could become the second 'backer selected next year.
  9. Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia (Junior)
Not highly known, the Georgia RB packs a powerful punch inside and can turn the corner against anyone. He has good, but not great hands and needs to develop his blocking. He is superbly talented and is one of those sleeper prospects that can either move up or slide down. But on talent alone, he is a top ten player.
  10. Curtis Painter, QB, Purdue (Junior)
A great athlete with good arm strength. His only flaw is lack of accuracy. Needs more coaching and desire to develop. I'm not as high on him as many scouts are. Have the ability to outshine the competition and move up or can tank and slid to the middle rounds. A gamble at this point, but there's no disputing his talent.
