Golf Rankings for Arnold Palmer Invitational
Nick Watney [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #36
Following a T17 at Doral, Watney appeared to be turning his disappointing 2012 around. Unfortunately, he finished outside of the top 50 at Copperhead and finished T64 in his most recent start at Bay Hill in 2010. After a strong campaign last year, Watney has not been living up to expectations and is unlikely to be worth the price tag he commands in most formats.
Ernie Els [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #35
After winning at Bay Hill in 2010, Els was a non-factor at the site last year, finishing T70. However, the South African has been playing well in the month of March. After a T21 at The Honda Classic, Els finished T5 last week at Copperhead. Els held a share of the lead for much of the final round, but went bogey-bogey to fall a stroke out of the playoff and was painfully awkward on television during the ensuing interview. Assuming he’s collected himself, Els could get shot to redeem himself this week.
Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #16
Dufner has failed to impress at Bay Hill over the last three years, but is coming off a T10 finish at Copperhead. In six stoke play events this season Dufner owns three finishes of 12th or better and ranks 12th in All-Around Ranking.
David Toms [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #138
After withdrawing from Doral with a back injury, Toms returned to action the following week at Copperhead finishing T20. Toms finished with a career-best T3 at Bay Hill last year.
Chris Stroud [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #84
When he doesn’t miss the cut, Stroud has been very good. In seven starts he’s missed three cuts with four finishes of 13th or better, landing a T5 and T9 in his last two starts.
Ben Crane [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #106
After finishing T11 at Bay Hill in 2009 and T25 the following year, Crane skipped the event in 2011. Crane started this season off with a solo second and three top-10s in his first four events, but has tailed off lately finishing T30 and T51 in his last two events.
Brandt Snedeker [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #17
Since winning at Torrey Pines, Snedeker has just one top-20 in four stoke play events. In five career starts at Bay Hill, Snedeker has finished 22nd or better on three occasions, but missed the cut last year.
Greg Chalmers [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #195
Chalmers has finished 33rd or better in five of his last six stroke play events this season with three top-20s. While the Australian is unlikely to challenge for a win, he’s a safe option that should yield another solid result.
Johnson Wagner [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #123
After a win, a T2 and another top-10 in his first three starts, Johnson cooled off in his next several events until finishing T13 at Doral. He finished T30 at Bay Hill last year and is currently 20th in All-Around Ranking.
Mark Wilson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #117
Wilson won the Humana Challenge in January and finished third in match play, but has placed 30th or worse in his last three events. He finished a career-best T9 at Bay Hill last year.
Spencer Levin [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #169
In his lone career start at Bay Hill, Levin began the final round in second place, but tumbled to finish T6. Earlier this year Levin finished solo third at Scottsdale and T9 at Pebble, but owns just one top-25 finish in his last three stroke play events.
Fredrik Jacobson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #129
Jacobson has finished inside the top-20 in three of his four stroke play events this season. The Swede recorded a career-best T9 at Bay Hill last year.
