Re-signing TE Brandon Pettigrew is now the Lions top priority

The Detroit Lions intend to retain TE Brandon Pettigrew even after putting up his lowest totals since his rookie season. Although he failed to put up big fantasy numbers for owners, Pettigrew is seen as an excellent blocker and a three down player.

Fantasy Analysis:

There are very few options at TE for the Lions. The only big names in free agency at the position are Dennis Pitta and Jermichael Finley. Finley's health is a big question mark and Pitta doesn't represent much of an upgrade. Considering Pettigrew's talent at blocking and the lack of TE depth on the current roster, re-signing him makes good sense.

Although Pettigrew's numbers have been trending south, it was only a couple of years ago he put up two 70 catch seasons. A new coach and a new scheme may find ways to re-establish Pettigrew as a top receiving threat. In 2009, the season new head coach Jim Caldwell moved from coordinator to HC for the Colts, we saw Dallas Clark have his best season, reeling in 100 catches and over 1100 yards.

Can Pettigrew do that? Um...no. But he can be much better than he was last year. If he stays healthy expect him to be a high upside TE 2. In one tight end leagues, he will cost you very little and may provide a nice return.
