Browns finally hire Mike Pettine as head coach

After interviewing a double-digit number of candidates, the Browns have finally made a decision: Mike Pettine is their head coach. A five-year deal between the two sides was made official Thursday. Pettine, who was the Bills' defensive coordinator in 2013, has been a DC in the league since 2009. However, this is his first venture into head coaching since his days running high school teams in the late '90s and early 2000s.

Fantasy Analysis:

Pettine, 47, seemed on the verge of getting this job at multiple points over the past few days. I'm happy for him and glad the Browns didn't back out after showing a ton of interest in Pettine. Is it a great hire? I've already said I don't love it, but the Browns were low on options with the number of coaches who were running away from their advances. The Browns had to choose somebody, and they have chosen an aggressive defensive mind. He'll need to surround himself with experienced coaches, especially on offense.
Now, will the Browns go get the players to give Pettine something to work with, and if they struggle to 4-12 again next season, will the powers that be treat him like they treated Rob Chudzinski?
