Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin safe, Mike Sherman out as OC

A club source told Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald that HC Joe Philbin's job was "definitely safe" after an 8-8 season and just missing the playoffs. Offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, however, was fired by Philbin on Monday. Following a year of controversy and underperforming free-agent signings, GM Jeff Ireland's status has "yet to be cemented."

Fantasy Analysis:

Philbin's Dolphins scored one touchdown in the final two games of the season, forcing the once hot team to watch the playoffs from home. After weathering the "Incognito-Martin" storm it looked like the Dolphins would grab the 6th seed in the AFC playoffs, but Mike Sherman's offense fizzled to finish the season, leading to his ouster this morning.

Philbin didn't want to fire his coordinator, and has hiring/firing control of his staff written into his contract, but it's likely that if he didn't replace Sherman, he would be out as head coach. Now former Tennessee HC Mike Munchak lost his job on Saturday for underperforming and reportedly for choosing not to part ways with his coaches.

Mike Wallace @Wallace17_daKid, Ryan Tannehill @ryantannehill1 and Brian Hartline @brianhartline could all benefit from stability at the offensive coordinator position. Wallace, in particular was wildly inconsistent this season and a very risky fantasy play week in and week out.
