Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley will go under the knife for a spinal fusion surgery. From a statement released by his agent: "We have collectively determined that while surgery may not be 100% necessary, it is a proactive measure that should alleviate future risks with regards to a similar episode or re-injury. Jermichael has elected to undergo a spinal fusion with Dr. Joseph Maroon. . . Once surgery has been completed, Jermichael has every intention of resuming his football career and we fully support his efforts to do so."
Finley's injury will take a long time to recover from and I'm sure every fantasy football owner wishes him good luck in his surgery and whatever life brings afterward. My mind is taken back to Chicago Bears WR Johnny Knox, who was viciously bent in half and needed immediate surgery to fix his vertebra. After sitting out over a year, he was eventually forced to retire last winter. We could be talking about Finley's retirement in 2015. You just never know.
