Report: 'It's not like 49ers LB Aldon Smith is going to be magically cured in a month'

A source tells ESPN's Ed Werder that there is no timetable for when linebacker Aldon Smith @aldonsmithJETS will return to the 49ers' defense.
The source said, "We want him treated as a person, not as a player. ... It's not like he's going to be magically cured in a month. ... If the problem is serious enough, a month might not be enough. The only timetable on this is him getting well."
Smith is currently in a rehab facility following his DUI arrest on Friday, his second DUI arrest since January 2012. The team placed Smith on the reserve/non-football injury list on Monday.

Fantasy Analysis:

I guess this is more common sense than actual reporting. There was a thought that Smith would miss a month of the season, but really, he should be and will be away from football for as long as he needs. This is not a football matter; this is a life matter, and anyone who thinks it is more important for Smith to help the 49ers win some football games rather than help himself control a disease he'll be managing for the rest of his life, you have a seriously flawed since priority. No alcoholic or addict has been "magically cured" following one 30-day rehab stint. I hope Smith takes all the time he needs to take care of his issues. He turns only 24 years old tomorrow; football will still be there when he's ready.
