Dolphins would like RBs Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas to continue to split time
Dolphins running back Lamar Miller came back from his forgettable Week 1 -- three yards on 10 carries -- to post a nice line last Sunday. He ran for 69 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown. Statistically, he was much better than Daniel Thomas, who ran for 30 yards on eight carries, but Thomas still played six more snaps than Miller. Head coach Joe Philbin said he would like to keep the playing time fairly even unless "one guy is breaking tackles left and right and taking the ball a long way, and the other guy is not being productive."
Miller should be that former guy consistently soon enough. He will definitely be more productive than Thomas, barring injury. Even in a committee backfield, Miller has some buy-low value. His play should help create more and more distance between him and Thomas in this backfield as the season rolls along.
