Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart placed on PUP list, will miss first 6 weeks

If you have been following the news about Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart @Jonathanstewar1 this summer, you could see this move coming for a while. The Panthers have placed Stewart on the reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list, which means he will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season. Stewart underwent surgery on both ankles during the offseason. He said last month that the left one felt good but the right one was still giving him trouble. Stewart hasn't been able to practice in training camp at all, and the decision to put him on the PUP was made after he saw a foot specialist Tuesday.

Fantasy Analysis:

The Panthers will push forward with DeAngelo Williams @DeAngeloRB, Mike Tolbert and Kenjon Barner as their top three running backs. Williams is the clear leader of that trio, but he is 30 years old and will probably come off the field often on third downs and in goal-line situations. Barner is a target in dynasty leagues, but I don't think he will have a lot of value this season. And lest I forget Cam Newton, who is truly the dominant figure in the Panthers' running game. Williams is just a decent flex RB. Stewart won't be eligible to play until Oct. 20 at the earliest.

Do you think Stewart is gonna be worth hanging on to until he returns? I also have Frank Gore, Demarco Murray and Danny Woodhead. Start two RB.

Well, well, well, your buddy Ian might have dibs on the old premonition pick! This was his longshot. Will it come to fruition?

@dcrat: It doesn't sound like it. I would not hang on to Stewart with the RBs you have.

I agree with dcrat, get rid of Stewart immediately, so you can fill that roster spot with someone productive.
