Chargers RB Ryan Mathews thinks Ryan Mathews can be a top-5 back

This season could be make-or-break for Chargers running back Ryan Mathews @rmathews24, especially after 2012 saw his collarbones break and break again. But Mathews said Thursday he is done thinking about the past. He wants to move forward, and with the Chargers' new coaching staff, he feels like this is the perfect time for him to hit the reset button. He said he needs to have more fun on the field and stop putting so much pressure on himself as a former first-round pick. And if it all comes together for him?
"I think I can be a top-five back and be up with the best of them," Mathews said. "I just have to be consistent."
Mathews has been consistently injured during his NFL career. He has missed 10 games in his first three seasons.

Fantasy Analysis:

Mathews has always talked a big game about himself, but the results are what they are. The Chargers say they want him to be "the guy" in their backfield, but Danny Woodhead @danny__woodhead will have a sizeable role as well. Mathews looks like an injury-prone back who just lost his third-down privileges. I'll still take him in the fourth or fifth round because he should get the majority of the touches and he can catch. But I won't feel good about making that pick.
