Falcons QB Matt Ryan gets paid: $103.75 million with $59 million guaranteed

In fantasy circles, Matt Ryan @M_Ryan02 is a top-10 quarterback. In real life, he is going to get paid like he's top two or three. As first reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Falcons and Ryan have reached an agreement on a five-year contract extension worth $103.75 million. Further examination of the contract shows that Ryan will get $59 million guaranteed. That is the second-largest amount of guaranteed money to a quarterback, trailing only Drew Brees. And Ryan's annual average value of $20.75 million is second to Aaron Rodgers.
Including his 2013 salary, Ryan is now working under a six-year contract worth $113.75 million. He had a career-best season in 2012, throwing for more than 4,700 yards and completing 68.6 percent of his passes. Ryan had a 32:14 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Fantasy Analysis:

That may seem like too much, but to the Falcons, it's a great deal to lock up a 28-year-old franchise quarterback who is becoming better and better. Ryan should be outstanding again in 2013. All of his usual targets from last year are back, and running back Steven Jackson adds another dimension to that passing game.
