Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart might not practice until middle or end of camp
ESPN's Pat Yasinskas wrote Monday that he "gets the sense it might be more toward the middle or end of camp" until we see Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart practice much. Last we heard from the team, head coach Ron Rivera said Stewart is "progressing well" but may not be healthy for the start of training camp.
Stewart underwent offseason surgery on both ankles. The Panthers' training camp opens July 25.
I've been targeting Stewart as an RB3 in some mocks, but this situation and his injury history should be a cause for concern. It doesn't sound like anyone has a firm idea when Stewart will be at full health, and I think everyone, myself included, should take a step back from him until we learn something more concrete here. Meanwhile, DeAngelo Williams should see his draft stock rise as news about Stewart's status becomes hazier.
