Lions QB Matthew Stafford would like to throw fewer passes this season

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford @Staff_9 was the only quarterback to throw 700 times last season. Obviously, a quarterback loves throwing the ball, but not if it means his team is going to go 4-12. Stafford told the Lions' official website that the Lions "proved" last season you can't throw that many times and be successful in the NFL. Stafford said he hopes his offense can be a little more balanced this season and lessen his number of throws in order to add wins.

Fantasy Analysis:

Reggie Bush will help the Lions have a more productive running game, but there are a couple of things to consider here:
The Lions are a pass-first team. They are not the Panthers. Calvin Johnson is their best player, and Bush will also be a big part of the passing game. Stafford will still throw it plenty.
Secondly, Stafford's wish in July and August might go out the window by September if the Lions' defense forces the team to constantly play from behind and throw with abandon.
Lastly, in 2011, the Lions went to the playoffs, and Stafford has his best year as a pro, throwing 41 touchdowns and more than 5,000 yards. He did that with 663 passes, 64 fewer than 2012. So, a reduction in passes could still mean Stafford's numbers will go up. He is a stellar QB1.
