New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount agreed to restructure his contract when joining the team via trade last month. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers back agreed to cut $1.07 million from his base salary. Blount only appeared on 92 offensive snaps last season, limiting him to just 41 carries for 151 yards and two scores. Blount is currently third, or possibly fourth, on the depth chart behind Stevan Ridley , Shane Vereen and possibly Leon Washington .
The Pats have a number of capable runners. Blount's immediate impact is unclear though. He figures to be a short-yardage back and may poach the occasional goal-line opportunity. The Pats also have Brandon Bolden on the roster at a very cheap rate and he proved to be a good commodity while healthy and out of trouble. There are a lot of new toys at the disposal of Tom Brady and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
