If you beat 'em, join 'em? I don't think that's how the adage goes, but that's how you can describe Anquan Boldin 's move today. The Ravens have traded the 32-year-old wide receiver to the team they defeated in last month's Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers. Baltimore received a 2013 sixth-round pick in return. Boldin, who will turn 33 in October, caught 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns last season.
The Niners have found the veteran wide receiver to replace Randy Moss, I guess. Boldin was absolutely, positively not going ot take a pay cut and without one, the Ravens were just going to release him. So, while Boldin is worth more than a sixth-rounder, the team did a nice job of getting anything for a player who was destined to be a free agent. Boldin is going to an offense with a little more firepower than his previous one, so his target and catch totals should take a little dip. He should be the Niners' No. 3 receiver, at the very most, behind Michael Crabtree and tight end Vernon Davis . Boldin will get his 55-60 receptions for 850 yards and a handful of touchdowns. In other words, even after the change of scenery ... meh.
The Ravens will be looking for a new No. 2 WR in the draft or free agency.
