Chip Kelly and Brian Kelly have more than just a surname in common. On Saturday, Brian joined Chip as the second coach this week to turn down the Eagles' advances to be their next head coach and stay at the helm in the college ranks.
"Like every kid who has ever put on a pair of football cleats, I have had thoughts about being a part of the NFL. However, after much reflection and conversation with those closest to me, I have decided to remain at Notre Dame," Brian Kelly said in a statement Saturday.
Chip decided to remain at the University of Oregon on Sunday after long discussions with the Eagles.
Fantasy Analysis:
If this was baseball, the Eagles would have struck out. They have swung and missed at the two Kellys and Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien. Doug Marrone, too. So ... four strikes. Next on their list are a few pro assistants -- Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.
