Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder
has been dealing with an elbow injury all week that reportedly limited him to only "mental reps" in practice while Joe Webb
handled all of the first-team snaps, according to NFL Insider Jay Glazer. The team states that the plan is still for Ponder to start tonight's playoff game against the Packers. But if that's the plan, Ponder's own teammates are apparently out of the loop. Glazer reported earlier today that the players haven't been told if Ponder or Webb will start the game. A formal decision will be made after coaches watch Ponder throw during pregame warmups.
Ponder is specifically dealing with bursitis in his throwing elbow, as first reported by 1500ESPN.com's Tom Pelissero. Ponder might have the elbow drained prior to the game, but the expectation that he will play remains.
Fantasy Analysis:
Unless you are a big Ponder or James Starks fan, It has been a very slow week for notable injuries to skill players, but this is an interesting development. Ponder will most likely start, but I think the Vikings should use Webb at times. His legs give the offense a different dimension at quarterback, and it gives the Packers' defense another element to defend. Ponder's dead arm might also mean even more work for Adrian Peterson, which should be the game plan for the Vikings every week.
