The San Francisco 49ers have announced that running back Kendall Hunter
is out for the season. They did not yet specify the exact nature of his injury. Hunter was injured in the third quarter and did not return. It is likely he has a fractured ankle, although that is pure speculation for now. Brandon Jacobs
is expected to see an increased role, along with Anthony Dixon
. Frank Gore, of course, remains the featured back and may be forced into more playing time.
Fantasy Analysis:
The 49ers have a plethora of backs and given their playing style, they are going to run it no matter who is available to play. Gore is having another great season in his eighth year in the NFL. Fantasy owners should continue to start Gore as usual although Jacobs is far from a fantasy option. It is possible that Jacobs vultures the occasional touchdown but little else since he has been injured up until last week.
