The San Francisco 49ers will have the services of running back Brandon Jacobs
at their disposal once again in Week 5 now that he's healthy and healed from a knee injury. Jacobs has already let it be known that he is "ready to play" and was seen running 60-yard dashes by reporters. San Francisco will continue to utilize Jacobs in short yardage situations and potentially around the goal line.
Fantasy Analysis:
Jacobs ability to convert short third downs is precisely why he was brought to San Francisco. The 49ers love to run the ball in the red zone and the 30-year-old back can certainly plow between the tackles. Jacobs' return will more than likely negatively affect Frank Gore's fantasy scoring potential. Between Gore, Jacobs, and Kendall Hunter
have a trio of backs who can be entrusted to tote the rock. That said, Gore remains a low-end RB1 or a top tier RB2, depending if you're a glass half full or glass half empty sort of person. San Francisco's commitment to their running game ensures as much.
