Week 9: Super Sleepers
WR Alshon Jeffery, CHI
Before reading too far, let it be known that Alshon Jeffery has a broken hand and at this time when he returns to the field is still unknown. With that out of the way, let's take a look at why Jeffery should be on your fantasy team. Since leaving in the fourth quarter of the Bears' 41-3 win over Jacksonville, Chicago has struggled to put points on the board. One reason they have struggled is their lack of a solid second receiver. When Alshon broke his hand week 5, he was the Bears' second leading receiver. Now three weeks and two games later and Alshon is still Chicago's second leading receiver. He may only be a rookie, but his presence on the field was enough to open the game up for Marshall and Forte. At this time the rookie out of South Carolina is still available in nearly 70% of fantasy leagues. As news of his return to the game begins to heat up, his availability will lessen. Prepare yourself for the games to come and snag Jeffery before it is too late.
WR Brandon LaFell, CAR
The Carolina Panthers have just 5 receiving touchdowns on the season, with two of them going to wide receiver Brandon LaFell. For most fantasy owners this would be enough to scare them away from all Panthers receivers. This week, however, we feel LaFell is a nice pick up for fantasy owners because of the matchup against the Redskins. Through the first 8 weeks, Washington has allowed a league high 314 passing yards per game and a league high 19 passing touchdowns. That means more than 2 receiving touchdowns per week. With LaFell leading the team in touchdown receptions, this sounds like a recipe for success. The Panthers need to establish a passing game in an effort of open up the run and this is the week to start in that direction. In the Panthers' last two games, Brandon has scored 11 and 8 fantasy points (which doesn't sound great, but when you're looking for a bye week fill in these numbers are not bad). We expect to see another solid performance from Brandon this week when the Panthers host the Redskins.
