Super Sleepers

Super Sleeper: A high risk/potential player who is mostly unknown by many fantasy football players. These players have lots of upside and could surprise with their fantasy output.

We have classified the following players as super sleepers for 2012. We will be updating this list throughout the pre-season.

Name Pos Team Age Yrs
Exp.
Pos. Rank
Vick Ballard RB IND 22 R RB - #40
Rookie Vick Ballard could be in the mix in the Colts backfield if Donald Brown or Delone Carter struggle to start the season. Brown and Carter have not been overly impressive when given the chance to play, so it is possible that Ballard will get an opportunity to see some action as early as this season. Despite his possible involvement in the Colts offense, Balla... Read More
Jackie Battle RB --- 29 5 RB - #51
Battle now becomes a super sleeper on my list. With Mathews out 4-6 weeks and Brown and Brinkley working for carries, Battle should factor into the RBBC approach too. Battle can run the ball and be productive under the right set of circumstances, so we will have to wait and see.

Brandon Bolden RB NE 23 R RB - #55
Update 8-11-2012 - Similar to when the Law firm came out of nowhere to be a part of the Patriots backfield, don't be surprised if you start to hear Brandon Bolden's name mentioned a little more often. There have been rave reviews around Patriots camp about him and if he keeps this up, he might even push Ridley for some playing time.

Terrance Ganaway RB STL 24 R RB - #104
With a thin backfield, anything is possible for the Jets this season. One possibility is that we could see Ganaway work his way up the depth chart becoming Greene's backup. With RG3 in front of you, the opportunities to shine were few and far between for Ganaway. He's a big back with good potential on a team with a weak backfield. It wouldn't surprise me to see... Taiwan Jones RB OAK 24 1 RB - #83
Jones has a window of opportunity following the off-season departure of Michael Bush. He'll likely start out as a change-of-pace back and will have to distinguish himself in that role before he can be considered a viable backup to McFadden. Undersized, his explosive speed could eventually make him a real difference maker.

Lamar Miller RB MIA 22 R RB - #49
At this point the third running back position is up for grabs between Clay, Slaton and the rookie from "the U". Miller's style of play is similar to Reggie Bush, so he could fit in well with Miami's west coast offense. Many believe the Dolphins got a great deal when they drafted Miller with the second pick in the fourth round. The drawback with Miller is... Read More
Bernard Pierce RB BAL 22 R RB - #68
In recent seasons, any fantasy owner with the Ravens' starting runner has one fear: the Ravens backup at the goal line. Considering the rookie projected into the role behind Ray Rice scored 27 rushing touchdowns last season, there is reason to be nervous. Pierce offers inside power, but is no timeshare threat. Scoring threat? That could be another story.

Daryl Richardson RB STL 23 R RB - #45
Despite being one of the last players selected in the 2012 draft, Richardson has a direct line to playing time in St. Louis and could open the season behind only Pead and Jackson.

UPDATE (8/7): Richardson missed the first week of training camp getting over a hamstring injury suffered in spring minicamp. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports h... Read More

Evan Royster RB WAS 25 1 RB - #75
Injuries provided the Penn State rookie with playing time over the final two weeks last season and Royster powered his way to consecutive 100-yard rushing games. The sneaky option in the Redskins backfield, but lack of speed suggests a limited role unless more injuries pop up. He is handcuff worthy as long as he remains at least third on the depth chart and is only... Read More
Bernard Scott RB CIN 29 3 Unranked
Bernard Scott always seems be hyped as a sleeper in the off-season, but has yet to live up to these predictions on the field. The inconsistent running back was unable to overtake Cedric Benson as the Bengals' starting running back in years past, and will now have to try to overtake BenJarvus Green-Ellis for playing time in the Cincinnati backfield. Scott does have... Read More
Robert Turbin RB SEA 23 R RB - #59
Turbin is built like a tank and can move – at least on the track. Give him a little time to develop at the pro level and he should be a real chain-mover. He could very well enter the 2012 season as Marshawn Lynch's primary backup -- or replacement, if Lynch's DUI case leads to a suspension.

Shane Vereen RB NE 24 1 RB - #103
Vereen only played in five games as a rookie due to injuries and too many other running backs ahead of him on the depth chart. That should change this season as the Patriots attempt to get him more involved in the offense. Look for him to battle Stevan Ridley for the lead back role, if such a thing truly exists in New Engald. Most likely he won't do enough to be ... Read More
