- Streamer of the Day - Jhoulys Chacin - Owned in 23% of Yahoo! Leagues
Chacin has pitched well in each of his two starts this season and will face Edinson Volquez and the San Diego Padres on the road this afternoon. Chacin was much better on the road last season than he was at home and owns a 3-1 record with a 2.57 ERA in five career starts against the Padres. Chacin faced the Padres in his last start, picking up the win by tossing six and two thirds solid innings, giving up just one run on six hits with no walks and a pair of strikeouts. In Chacin we trust.
Yesterday's Streamer of the Day: Felix Doubront - Rained Out
2013 Streamer Quality Start Record: 7-3
Sunday's Streamer of the Day - Nick Tepesch - Owned in 4% of Yahoo! Leagues
What Happened Last Night: Virtually all of the elite pitchers in our FFToolbox rankings yesterday pitched well, but did not record a victory. Clayton Kershaw, Yu Darvish, Max Scherzer and Matt Cain all delivered solid performances but failed to come away with a win.
Justin Masterson improved to 3-0 tossing a complete game shutout against the Chicago White Sox. Masterson gave up just five hits and struck out seven. Masterson has been lights-out to start the season, but I don't totally buy his hot start as completely legitimate so if you can sell high, I would do it.
Remember when we were concerned about CC Sabathia after his shaky performance on Opening Day? He was dominant once again yesterday, shutting down the Baltimore Orioles, improving to 2-1.
Today's Lineup Card: With a full slate on tap for Saturday, every one of the top 20 pitchers in our FFToolbox rankings are a solid starter that I would trust in my lineup. It's a relatively easy day for fantasy owners pitching-wise, but here are a couple things to keep in mind before you set your lineup.
Not that I would ever entertain sitting him, but Stephen Strasburg hasn't had a ton of success in his career against the Atlanta Braves. In seven career starts, Strasburg is 3-3 with a 4.17 ERA against the Braves, who are a top-10 offense so far this season.
Jonny Cueto is 12-4 with a 2.54 ERA in 19 career starts against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are batting just .175 as a team this season and have scored the second-fewest runs in baseball.
Cole Hamels on the road against Jose Fernandez is the most intriguing pitching matchup of the day. Hamels (0-2, 10.97 ERA) gets the edge because of the Marlins anemic offense, which has produced the fewest runs in baseball through 10 games.
You have to wonder if getting out of Toronto, at least momentarily, will help R.A. Dickey straighten out his knuckleball issues on the road at Kansas City today. Going up against James Shields, he won't have much room for error, so avoid using Dickey if you can.
One of the games hottest pitchers, Matt Harvey, will be featured in the only inter-league contest of the day, taking on the Minnesota Twins. He looks like a sure bet to improve to 3-0.
Yovani Gallardo checks in at number 24 on our rankings today and is not a starting pitcher I would risk putting in my lineup today. Gallardo is 1-9 with a 6.72 ERA in 14 career starts against the St. Louis Cardinals and will have to face their ace Adam Wainwright on the road today. Sit Gallardo.
The starting pitcher rankings and analysis above are all my opinions, use your best judgment when it comes to setting your lineup, its your team after all. If you have a fantasy baseball question or comment, feel free to follow me on Twitter @GeorgeBissell.
