2009 Fantasy Baseball Rankings: SPWe are ranking over 450 players to help you prepare for the up coming season. Whether you are in a shallow 10-team mixed-league or play in an NL or AL-only 12 team league, the depth of these 5x5 rankings will certainly be helpful. Johan Santana, NYMWith the addition of K-Rod and Putz to the bullpen, look for Johan to approach 20 wins in what could finally be the Mets year.
Tim Lincecum, SF265 strikeouts can't be wrong but a lack of a solid supporting cast keeps him out of number one spot in our rankings.
CC Sabathia, NYYWas an absolute beast the second half of last season but his move to the scary good A.L. East will bring his numbers down.
Roy Halladay, TORFantasy baseball's best SP in 2008 will hopefully be just as effective in the tough A.L. East division.
Dan Haren, ARIHaren was marvelous as his move to the N.L. fit like a glove. If he can avoid his yearly 2nd half slide he could very well be number one on our board
Brandon Webb, ARIThe strikeouts were down last year but look for his stats to improve with the emergence of his very young Arizona team. Another 20 wins a possibility
Cole Hamels, PHIHamels will have to avoid the pitfalls of other recent young World Series pitchers but if he can repeat last seasons statistics he is a solid fantasy ace
John Lackey, LAALackey was slowed by an a minor arm injury last year but has been one of the most reliable fantasy SP's in recent years
Ervin Santana, LAAErvin very well could beat out Lackey to become the Angels ace. After a down 2007 season this young ace put it all together in 2008.
Ricky Nolasco, FLANolasco came out of nowhere to post better numbers than some of the guys on this board who are ranked higher. After this year everyone will know who he is
Jake Peavy, SDPeavy will always put up solid numbers in Petco Park cavern but will suffer in the win column with the rebuilding Padres in cost cutting mode.
Cliff Lee, CLELee surprised most last year with a 22 win season in which he excelled on the mound. In most years you would see him in the top ten .
Roy Oswalt, HOUOswalt rebounded nicely from a shaky 2007 season. His 10-2 record and 2.24 era in the second half showed that he has a few good years left.
Josh Beckett, BOSBeckett was slowed by injury in the first half of the season but is another potential number one starter at a number two price.
Francisco Liriano, MINLiriano finally showed flashes of being the pitcher every thought he could be after 2007 Tommy John surgery. Could take the next step in 2009.
Chad Billingsley, LADA 200 K starting pitcher with ace potential is only this low after concerns with an offseason recovering from a broken leg that could hinder him in 2009.
Felix Hernandez, SEAThis guy has been pegged as a future star since being called up by the Mariners at age 19. This could be the year he puts it all together
James Shields, TBOne of the leaders of the Tampa Bay World Series run, there are concerns about how he can handle his record amount of innings pitched.
Scott Kazmir, TBKazmir has always been a guy who will miss at least one month out of the season but when he does pitch he is electric.
Javier Vazquez, ATLVazquez struggled last season with a 4.67 ERA. However a move back to the National League should lead to overall better stats.
Justin Verlander, DETAnother future ace who struggled last season, Verlander's 98 mph heat should rebound nicely this year and make him a nice value pick.
Brett Myers, PHIMyers had a better ERA than everyone but CC Sabathia among National Leaguers after the all star break. He is in a contract year as well.
Adam Wainwright, STLSt. Louis's number one starter was saddled with a minor finger injury in the middle of last season. Use that as an excuse to get him on the cheap this season.
Zack Greinke, KCIf he played for a better team Greinke would surely be a top 20 fantasy starter. For now just be happy with this stud who actually pitched better late in the season
Ted Lilly, CHCLily will never be a guy who approaches a low 3's era but he has consistently won at least 17 games the last two season and is a very reliable.
Rich Harden, CHCLast year he finally showed what he could do in a full season of work. He is a risk being that he pitches with a slight tear in his shoulder.
A.J. Burnett, NYYThe Yankees paid 81 million to find out if Burnett could avoid some of his injury struggles of the past. If healthy, another 200 K's is very likely.
Jon Lester, BOSSome have deemed Lester as MLB's best lefthander outside of Johan Santana. I believe that 2009 will go a long ways in us knowing for sure.
Joba Chamberlain, NYYThe Yankees will coddle this young fireballer and limit his innings as the fifth starter. A move back to the bullpen is still very possible.
Daisuke Matsuzaka, BOSThe Red Sox 100 million dollar import sure lived up to his considerable expense last season. He gives up a high amount of walks but only gave up 12 homers last season.
